The Western Cape is experiencing severe drought following poor rains for the last several years. The shortage is acute and there is a real prospect that the city of Cape Town runs out of useable water before next year’s rainfall. The city has asked all residents to limit consumption to 87 litres per day.
At Derwent House, we appeal for guests’ understanding and cooperation in these dire circumstances. We are periodically obliged to close our pool and jacuzzi when water levels drop below the minimum required to run the filtration systems. We are also asking guests to be water-wise while staying with us: not to run baths, turning off the tap while brushing teeth, collecting the cool water from your shower in the bucket provided for that purpose, and such measures.
